How many kilograms of feed are needed to produce one kilogram of fish? Understanding FCR is the key to profitability and sustainability.
FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio) is the ratio of feed consumed to the live weight gain achieved. The closer it gets to 1.0, the more efficiently the feed is being used.
A good FCR is the combined result of raw-material quality, pellet physical durability, feeding management and water quality. In BLACKSEA feeds we optimize extrusion parameters separately for each species and size, targeting FCR values below the industry average.
Remember: the cheapest feed is not always the most economical. A low FCR pays back far more than the price on the bag.
